Nyjah Harris, a graduate from Old Dominion University, is a passionate violinist with over a decade of experience. She began her musical journey at the age of 11 through the Shirley Heim Middle School Orchestra, where she quickly developed a love for the violin. Her talent and commitment led her to concertmaster of both her high school symphony and chamber orchestras, as well as an accepted member of the All-County Stafford County Orchestra.
Nyjah’s early training was shaped by influential mentors such as Mr. Macdonald and Mr. Barriclow, and she continued her musical development in college under Dr. Kim at ODU's Symphony Orchestra. She has performed with several ensembles including the Rappahannock Youth Symphony Orchestra, Virginia Symphony Orchestra, and Bay Youth Symphony Orchestra. She also regularly attended the James Madison University Spring String Thing during her formative years, further strengthening her technical skill and interest for classical music. During her time in youth orchestras, Nyjah led sectionals and rehearsals developing her ability to communicate music and inspire her peers. These early leadership experiences sparked her passion for teaching and helped lay the foundation for her student curriculum today.
As a teacher, Nyjah believes in creating both confidence and curiosity in her students. Her approach blends technical fundamentals with creative expression. She strives to create a warm, patient, and supportive environment where students feel inspired to grow not only as musicians, but as individuals.
Nyjah is thrilled to share her love for the violin and help beginner and intermediate students of all ages discover the joy of music at Manita Music Center.
